A Fun Morning at The Great Wall China — My Mutianyu Trip Experience

Visiting the Great Wall had always been on my list, and during my time in Beijing, I finally made it happen. I joined a day tour to Mutianyu Great Wall through Klook, mainly because I wanted something straightforward — transport sorted, timing clear, and no stress figuring logistics.

Choosing the Route to explore The Great Wall China

Once you arrive, there are two main ways to explore: West Route or East Route. I picked the East Route — and honestly, it fit my pace perfectly.

This option meant taking the chairlift up to the wall. It was calm, scenic, and gave me a moment to take in the greenery around the mountains before even stepping onto the stones. From there, I walked along the watchtowers — not rushing, just soaking in the scale of it all.

The Great Wall China here feels expansive yet approachable. Some sections have steep steps, others are gentler, so you naturally find your own rhythm. I spent time pausing between towers, looking out over the rolling hills, and just appreciating how surreal it felt to finally be there.

Toboggan Down — A Fun Ending

What made this route memorable was the way down: the toboggan ride. It’s essentially a small gravity-driven slide encouraging you to control your own speed. Equal parts fun and practical — and a very different way to leave a UNESCO-level landmark 🙂

It didn’t feel gimmicky — more like a lighthearted finish after walking the wall. Definitely something I’d choose again.

If you’re planning something similar, you can check the same tour here.

And if you’re flying in, I usually compare flights first before anything else — just search routes from your city to Beijing and plan from there.

In summary, Joining a guided day trip kept things simple, especially in a destination where transport and ticket coordination can take time to figure out. If you’re visiting Beijing for the first time, this approach makes the experience smoother so you can focus on enjoying the place itself.

Mutianyu offered the balance I was hoping for — history, scenery, and just enough activity without feeling rushed. Quiet moments on the wall ended up being what stayed with me most.
