There’s a different kind of energy when you arrive at the southern side of Gili Trawangan.

The roads become quieter, the atmosphere feels calmer, and suddenly everything moves a little slower. Hidden between coconut trees and the ocean sits Pondok Santi Estate — a tropical beachfront retreat that feels peaceful from the moment you step inside.

Spread across seven hectares of lush tropical greenery and an ancient coconut plantation, the estate is designed around space, privacy, and slow island living; A luxury Stay in Gili Indonesia Unlike many stays in Gili Trawangan, the villas here are intentionally spread apart, making the entire property feel intimate and uncrowded even during peak season.

If you’re currently planning your Lombok or Gili Islands trip, I’d recommend checking the latest room availability early, especially during summer and holiday periods since the beachfront villas are usually the first to sell out. You can compare the latest prices for Pondok Santi Estate here:

Quieter Side of a Luxury Stay in Gili Indonesia

One of my favorite things about Pondok Santi Estate is its location on the quieter southern side of the island.

While the main central area of Gili T can get busy at night, this part of the island feels much more peaceful. You still have easy access to cafés, restaurants, and beach bars, but the overall atmosphere feels more private and relaxing.

The moment you enter the property, you’re surrounded by:

  • tall coconut trees

  • tropical gardens

  • white stone pathways

  • open green spaces

  • beachfront ocean views

Everything about the estate feels intentionally designed to slow you down.

One detail I especially loved was seeing horses casually walking around the property and nearby beach paths — a very Gili Trawangan experience that somehow makes the island feel even slower and more nostalgic.

The Villas & Design

The villas blend understated luxury with tropical island design.

Think natural wood interiors, outdoor terraces, soft neutral tones, and lush greenery surrounding every corner. One of the most beautiful details was the private outdoor bathroom hidden inside a bougainvillea garden, creating a tropical open-air experience that feels both peaceful and luxurious at the same time.

Some villas also feature private pools overlooking the gardens and peaceful lake areas inside the estate.

Rather than feeling overly flashy, the design feels warm, organic, and calming — which honestly fits the entire vibe of Gili Trawangan perfectly. Book early here.

If you’re traveling as a couple or planning a slower tropical escape, this is the kind of stay where you genuinely want to spend time inside the resort itself, not just use it as a place to sleep.

Beachfront Mornings & Sunset Hours

One of the best parts of staying at Pondok Santi Estate is having direct access to a beautiful beachfront area without the crowds.

Mornings here are incredibly peaceful. The ocean is calm, the breeze feels soft, and the beachfront daybeds become the perfect place to slow down with coffee or breakfast.

By sunset, the atmosphere changes completely.

The beachfront restaurant and beach club area at Santi Beach becomes one of the prettiest spots on the island for golden hour. Think rustic tropical interiors, oceanfront dining, soft music, and sunset views over the water.

If you enjoy activities beyond relaxing at the resort, the hotel can also help arrange snorkeling trips, bicycle rentals, and even horse riding along the beach — which feels especially magical during sunset hours around Gili Trawangan.

The waters around the island are also known for sea turtles, making snorkeling one of the most popular experiences while staying here.

Getting to Gili Trawangan

Since reaching Gili Trawangan usually involves additional transfers from Bali or Lombok, I personally like comparing flight schedules beforehand to make the journey smoother — especially if you’re coordinating fast boat departures or private harbor transfers.

You can compare flights to Bali and Lombok here.

One thing that genuinely helped during the trip was already having internet activated before arrival. Between coordinating harbor pickups, checking boat timings, contacting the hotel, and navigating around Lombok, having data immediately made the journey much easier.

Why I’d Stay Here Again

If you’re looking for:

  • a quieter side of Gili Trawangan

  • tropical luxury without feeling overly commercial

  • beachfront villas surrounded by greenery

  • peaceful island mornings

  • romantic and slow travel vibes

  • Fun activities you can book in advance Horse riding at the beach, Snorkeling and bicycle ride to explore the island.

…then Pondok Santi Estate is genuinely one of the most beautiful stays in the Gili Islands.

What makes it special isn’t just the villas or beachfront views — it’s the overall atmosphere. The space, privacy, tropical landscaping, and calm energy make the entire experience feel more personal and relaxing compared to many resorts nearby.

It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay an extra night… and slow down a little longer. 🌴
